John McCain … NOT the “Comeback Kid” …

Well, I just watched the last debate and … well I wasn’t too impressed with John McCain.  I hope I’m wrong, but this may have “clinched” it for Obama.

If McCain loses this election … most will blame it on the economy.

I think that is patently ridiculous.  The American people are not so shallow as to turn to Socialism as a means of throwing blame on Republicans.  Especially one that was so often at odds with the head Republican, G.W.

I think if McCain loses, it has to do with McCain and the way he ran the campaign.

My take is this … if McCain loses, it’s because he let stand the myth of “Bush Is Devil”.

Obama has had ONE MESSAGE, and that is to paint McCain as a Bush clone.  This seems like a good tactic, given Bush has such low approval ratings.  And McCain ran from this charge, distancing himself from Bush – so much so – he appeared to be obviously running from the association.

His running didn’t work.

What if he had …

Defended Bush?

Example …

What if he had said during the debate tonight …

Hey Senator, you keep beating this droning drum of ‘Bush this’ and ‘Bush that’ … and it would appear to me that you have a rather unhealthy fixation on George W. Bush.  It makes you sound rather ‘conspiratorial’, you know – like those 9-11 conspiracy theorists that believe Bush blew up the twin towers – you aren’t one of THOSE GUYS are you?

You keep talking about the ‘failed Bush policies’ … but which specific polices are you talking about?  We already know you’re not happy about the Iraq war … both you and Osama Bin Laden are very upset that Bush actually gave freedom to 25 million Iraqis.  I know that their freedom upsets you, and that is why you voted to defund the troops and declare defeat.

But what other policies of his specifically did you disagree with?

There is a very good case to be made for George W. Bush if you are open-minded. No, there were no WMD’s in Iraq but everyone thought there was. And, in any case, we now have a shot at gaining a solid democratic ally in the region with the new, free Iraq. Of course, it won’t happen now if Barack is elected President, he’ll give Iraq to Iran. He will squander the victories there won with our soldier’s blood. Bush’s tax cuts did nothing but good for this country. The only failure of Bush was that he didn’t insist on getting a handle on Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac because he didn’t want to butt heads with the Democrats (who brought us this whole financial crisis). Yes, Bush has run up the deficit, but he did it by prosecuting the Globar War on Terror … a war which has undeniably resulted in ZERO attacks on our home soil since 9-11.

Maybe he shouldn’t have run so hard from Bush?
