And pardon my French in the topic title … but serioiusly … look at this!
I can’t tell you how frustrating this crap is. Let me see if my pea-sized hillbilly brain can come up with the words.
Okay … I have an Uncle that I never knew. He was drafted into the Army in 1943 when he was 18. He was one of the lucky ones that survived the D-Day landing. He fought through France and Belgium … survived. Around September – October, 1944 … Eisenhaur commenced the months long “Huertgen Forrest” campaign. There was a book written … “Hell in the Huertgen Forrest”. It was a meat grinder … an erie snowy forrest full of determined German Soldiers on the border of Belgium and Germany. My uncle was one of the lucky ones who survived that battle … he suffered through over a month in that hell. He watched his friends die there. During the whole time there was not a moment his life wan’t in peril … and this was a guy who had been fighting since D-Day. On the day his unit exited the forrest … he was shot and killed by a German sniper in a village on the edge of the forrest. The town was supposed to be “clear” … it wasn’t.
It is to guys like my Uncle that we all owe our freedom to. You probably have someone like my Uncle in your family … someone you never knew … but someone you’ve heard stories about.
Before my Uncle was drafted … he was a sharecropper on a farm that he operated with his three sisters. When he died … the landlord told his three sisters they’d have to leave … since no “man” was going to be able to work the farm since my Uncle was now dead. My grandmother and her sisters were homeless.
So it wasn’t just my Uncle who endured hardships … my grandmother did too.
Now …
Here we are … mortgaging our children’s future to the tune of another $700 billion dollars and why?
Because we don’t want to wait in a gas line.
Because we’re afraid we’ll have to work a few years longer to make up for potential losses in our 401K’s.
Because we’re afraid we could go to the super market and find there isn’t produce one or two days a week.
God … what softies. Do we deserve freedom? My Grandmother would have never signed onto a deal like this $700 billion toilet flush that her children would have to pay for. She would have endured any hardship to prevent that.
I’m embarrassed … because it’s going to pass.
UPDATE: FOX NEWS is now reporting that … including all the “sweeteners” (designed to get more Senators to vote FOR the bailout) … the bill is now up to $850 BILLION DOLLARS!
We have … completely gone insane!
UPDATE: BILL PASSES EASILY IN SENATE. God Help Us.
