Why can’t they take responsibility for their defeats?
“I just do not trust the American people,” said Eleanor Shavell, 58, a computer programmer, who, along with several others, joked she would move to Canada if Mr Obama loses. “I cannot believe that 80 per cent of this country thinks we’re headed in the wrong direction yet 50 per cent are supporting McCain and Palin. I guess it’s like at school, there’s always got to be a bottom 50 per cent.”
Uhhhm … yeah … and YOU’RE IN IT!
Let me explain something to you Eleanor …
First of all … where does the metric “80 percent of the American people believe this country is headed in the wrong direction?” come from and what does it mean?
Well it comes from pollsters – and it’s a two dimensional statistic.
Example … if 40% of the American people believe government is spending too much money …
and 40% of the American people believe that government isn’t spending enough …
Then that’s 80% of Americans who believe the country is on the wrong track. However … grouping those two groups together makes them look like they have something in common when, in fact … they have very little in common.
And this is because half of that “80 percent” would prolly support Obama … the other half McCain.
Throw some independents into the mix … or people who think the country is generally on the right track (the 20 percent) and it’s very easy to see how, combined with one of the other 40% groups … you have 50% that might support one candidate or the other.
Glad to help you out Eleanor … hope one day you can graduate from the bottom 50%. Oh … and I feel your frustration … Democracy is a bitch and things don’t always go “your way”. Perhaps you’d like place some voting restrictions on us retarded people out here in the red belt? Perhaps only Ivy League types who can’t do math should be the only ones voting?

Wow, and I always thought it was that Northern accent that grated on my nerves, turns out it’s the condescending tone. I used to consider myself a liberal, but I got sick of being lumped in with idiots like her. I’d like to know what she thinks qualifies her to be in the top fifty percent of her little analogy. I’d also like to ask her to name a situation where there isn’t a “bottom fifty percent”.
Oh well, at least she did her part for McCain. Nothing turns people off like being talked down to. I would feel sorry for Canada if I thought she actually meant to move there.
